Ishion Hutchinson

Ishion Hutchinson was born on August 22, 1983 in the coastal town of Port Antonio, Jamaica. He spent some years in St. Thomas where cultural practices like Kumina and Myal emerged as major themes in his poetry. He went to Happy Grove High School and then later to Titchfield where he did sixth form. His achievements in poetry include a scholarship to the Calabash Writer’s Workshop and being a founding member of The Workshop, a group of young writers dedicated to improving their craft.
